Siren / Omnipollo Homebrew Competition 2016

omnipolloEvery year we run a homebrew competition in collaboration with our friends at Omnipollo, where the winner gets the chance to brew a three-way collaboration with us both.

In 2013 Swedish brewer Rick Gordon Lindqvist came over to the UK to brew Näcken – a hoppy hefeweizen. In 2014 the competition was run in the UK for the first time, and we ended up taking Mike Bates over to Dugges brewery in Sweden to brew Gracchus, a deconstructed Gin Saison. Last year Niklas Johansson came out on top, so he visited us with Henok and Karl to brew Life is a Peach, a Peaches & Cream IPA that became one of our most popular beers last summer and is still turning heads in its Chardonnay Barrel Aged form now.

So on to 2016. True to form it’s our year to hold the competition, so it’s a lucky UK home-brewer who will go on to brew with ourselves and Omnipollo over in Sweden later this year.

We’re keeping it really simple as usual. We’re accepting entries until 30th June which will be judged by a tasting panel at Siren (we usually bring in some expert outside help as well). We’ll be looking for creative ideas, superb execution but most importantly: great beer. All styles welcome. We’ll draw up a shortlist of 5/6 beers that we love and send them over to Henok and Karl at Omnipollo, and then between us we’ll pick an ultimate winner.

Between both breweries and the competition winner we’ll decide what we’re going to brew over in Sweden, then we’ll take you over to Omnipollo with flights and accommodation all included. You can count on a few beers as well.

  • You must be over 18
  • You must be a UK homebrewer
  • You can have no connections with a trading brewery
  • You can submit up to three entries
  • You need to be available to travel to Sweden with us in August to brew a full-batch beer

  • Your entry needs to be with us before 30th June 2016
  • You need to send us 3 bottles of your beer (330ml bottles upwards)
  • You need to include a copy of the brew sheet / recipe
  • Ideally you will include some brief notes outlining the inspiration and story behind your brew

Please send your entries to the following address, ensuring that everything is packaged securely for transit:

Homebrew Competition
Siren Craft Brew
Unit 1, Weller Drive

Good luck everyone! We can’t wait to see what you come up with.

  1. César says:

People that are not from the UK but are living here can participate ?

  2. admin says:

    Yes they can enter.

  3. Chris says:

Question: by giving you our brewsheet, does that entitle you to brew our beer (or a variation of it) without permission by the homebrewer (should you like it, but not quite enough to win), or are we giving permission for you to brew it by submitting our entry?

    • admin says:

Under no circumstances would we ever do this. However, you seem to be very confident about your beer, so we fancy your chances in the comp! Good luck.

      • Chris says:

Cheers! Have heard (rumor) of other competitions where the home brewer giving the rights to brew by submitting an entry, but I may have dreamed this. And yeah, I think the beer that I will enter is quite unique.. Haven’t heard of any other beers quite like it.. but maybe I’ve not researched enough.. lol Its been a firm favorite of everybody that has tasted it (in all three variations)

  4. Daren says:

I live about 10 minutes away from the brewery, is it possible to drop off entries in person (potentially outside the shop opening hours)?

    Cheers, Daren

  5. admin says:

Hi Daren, yes that’s fine, it would obviously be best if you could catch us when someone was here just so we can get your beer straight in the cold store. When are you thinking?

  6. Lee says:

Any label (or no label) requirements?

  7. Rasmus Dall says:

If one were to win the competition, what happens with regard to IP of the beer? Will you +(Siren/Omnipollo) be able to brew it and sell it commercially forever without any proceeds going to the winner of the competition. Or is it a one off brew that will not be brewed again unless further agreement was made?

    • admin says:

It’s a one off beer that we will not brew. The beer with Omnipollo will be a three-way collaboration with the two breweries and the homebrew champion (as it has been each time every year). Hope this helps, any more questions please send them our way. Cheers.

  8. Nick says:

Hey, was just wondering when the judging is being held for this?

    • admin says:

Hi Nick, initial judging has been done and our shortlisted beers are on their way to Omnipollo. Between us we’ll pick the winner!

  9. James says:

Would be great to hear who made the shortlist, think you guys shared a post about it last time?

  10. Kelvin Hurd says:

    Is there one in 2017
