SI7EN

It’s a very proud time for us this week, as we get to reveal our plans to celebrate 7 years of brewing. The time has flown by, and the progress we’ve made in that time is pretty staggering to look back on. (Not least the past 12 months -  where we’ve seen transformation in the brewery, countless new passionate faces in the team and an evolution of our branding.)

Thank you for sticking with us for all this time, the support we receive each day, the stories we hear of our beers making memories and forming connections, and the enjoyment we get to witness at events, the Tap Yard and online really do make it all more than worthwhile.

Now, on to the anniversary celebrations!

Maiden

As is tradition, and to symbolise it being our first ever brew, Maiden is the first beer in the tanks each year. It has also become the symbol of Siren's anniversary, with a new blend being released each year in March.

Maiden Journeys

It was a cold morning in Finchampstead when Darron, our first Head Brewer Ryan, and Darron's two dogs first set out on a voyage into brewing. That brew was an American barley wine that went straight into a variety of barrels to start the ageing process.

Each year, a fresh brew of Maiden has been added to a growing wealth of barrels. These range from a variety of drinks and spirits including red & white wines, various whiskeys & bourbons and even tequila, each barrel bringing a unique character to the beer.

Annually since then, we gather to carefully bring together the perfect blend to create each year’s Maiden release. You can see a photoset from this year’s blend here, and click here to create your very own Maiden Blend, in an event here at the Tap Yard.

Each year, members of the team, some investors and selected guests work to create their own blends, which we then all try and vote on. This year’s winning blend was created by our Operations Manager, Jason.

Over the last few weeks, our Barrel Manager, Steve, has been beavering away to recreate Jason’s blend on a larger scale, ready for release. He says that in his opinion it’s one of the most balanced Maiden vintages ever, with caramel, burnt sugar, sweetness and bitterness, not overly rich but luxurious in aroma. And most importantly, eminently drinkable!

Overview Blend Split:

30% Red Wine
30% Bourbon
12% Whisky/Auchentoshan
10% Brandy/Armagnac
6% Banyuls
6% Sauternes
6% Fresh Maiden 2020

Sins & Virtues

Due to it being the 7th Anniversary this time, our creative juices were flowing. We decided to play with the Seven Deadly Sins and Seven Heavenly Virtues to bring two very special beers to life, celebrating what we love at Siren - new challenges, bold flavours, uncharted territory. Step forward: Sins & Virtues.

Sins

6.66% Forbidden Apple Stout

Playing on the original sin, using some artistic license and 1000l of Russet Apple Juice, which comes from Mr Whitehead's Cider Co in Hampshire, 'Sins' is a beer/cider hybrid, a style sometimes referred to as a Graf. Even more unusually, we've taken this concept into a robust stout recipe!

Brewer's Notes:
Aroma: Roasty, caramel and burnt sugar toffee notes with blackcurrant and apple.
Flavour: Roasty, rich and earthy but with Russet Apple acidity, like a dry cider.
Mouthfeel: Immediately drinkable, but drink slightly warmer for full impact!

Virtues

7% Heavenly Fruited IPA

‘Virtues’ is a celebration of ALL the non-forbidden fruit. (Well, as much as we could feasibly use in a beer to make it delicious).

We've accentuated a trademark IPA with a heavenly selection of fruits: Apricot, Mango, Passionfruit, Peach, Pineapple, Pink Guava, Papaya and Strawberry. Centennial, Sabro and Mosaic cut through with punchy hop character and balancing bitterness.

Brewer's Notes:
Aroma: All the fruit! Coconut, passionfruit, stone fruits and loads of tropical and herbal notes.
Flavour: Again, super fruity. Loads of tropical and stone fruits.
Mouthfeel: Full, but still super chuggable.

Launch

From March 12th, we’ll have some awesome launch nights and Tap Takeovers across the country. We’re sorry if we’re not at your favourite venue, or in a town near you, but we simply can’t get everywhere. All the beers will be going out to trade, and of course available online, so you can pester your local to get them in, or get the small pack online.

Check out the poster, the list of venues and what’s happening below!

Each event will also have extra Siren beers on! We've listed what we can (and will continue to update), but expect to see an exciting line-up wherever you go!
