Canning Line Operator (with Engineering Development Potential)
Location: Finchampstead
Contract: Full-time
Siren is an internationally renowned brewery, celebrated for our flagship beers, creative collaborations, and small-batch releases that push boundaries. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for a hands-on, ambitious, and mechanically minded person to join our packaging team.
This is an entry-level role operating and maintaining our canning line — but it comes with the opportunity to grow into an engineering-focused position within the brewery. If you’re passionate about brewing, enjoy problem-solving, and love working with tools and machinery, this is a unique chance to develop your skills and career with us.
Key Responsibilities
• Operate the canning line, ensuring beer is packaged to the highest standards.
• Monitor quality control checks including weights, fills, CO₂, DO, and TPO readings.
• Keep the packaging area clean and well maintained, following food hygiene standards.
• Perform size and format changes on packaging equipment as needed.
• Assist with cleaning in place (CIP) and other brewery cellaring tasks.
• Support routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on packaging equipment.
• Keep accurate records and follow checklists for daily operations.
• Move raw materials and finished product using pallet/forklift trucks.
• Learn and contribute to creating/updating standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Development Opportunities
This role is designed to grow with you. Over time, you’ll gain exposure and training in:
• Mechanical and electrical maintenance of packaging equipment.
• Process improvement and efficiency projects.
• Working with suppliers on equipment upgrades and servicing.
• Stock management and spare parts planning.
• Broader brewery engineering responsibilities beyond packaging.
Experience & Skills
Essential
• A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and hands-on approach.
• Practical/mechanical aptitude (comfortable with tools, fixing or tinkering).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, physical environment.
• Good communication skills and a team-first mindset.
• Basic IT/admin skills (Microsoft Office).
• Physically fit (able to lift/move 25kg).
Desirable (but not required — training will be provided)
• Experience in packaging, manufacturing, or engineering.
• Previous exposure to canning or bottling lines.
• Basic mechanical/electrical repair skills.
• Forklift licence.

The Job

The Siren Bar is the frontline of what we do, serving brewery-fresh beer and running some of the most exciting events in the beer scene. We envisage this role evolving over time with opportunities for key involvement in future projects.
Responsibilities
Day-to-day running of the Siren Bar and open/close procedures
Recruit, manage and grow a dedicated team including training and shift-planning
Oversee cellar maintenance and quality standards
Manage stock and commercials with regular reporting
Work with the management team to assess and implement new offerings
Drive the planning and execution of events
Marketing of the Siren Bar through social media channels
Management of fresh food kitchen and team
Driving Sales on a daily basis and influence local marketing projects
Maintain labour and gross margin spending budgets on a weekly basis

The salary will be made up from a base salary and tronc payments paid on a monthly basis.

Creation of food menu
Working with local suppliers for seasonal specials
Recruitment and Development of kitchen team
Labour analysis and control for BOH spending
Implementation of weekly/biweekly stock takes
Experience of recipe building and costing
Compliance with food safety, labour, and employment laws
Carry out monthly 1-2-1's with team
About you
Demonstrate 2+ years at head chef level (fresh food kitchen preferred)
Outstanding attention to detail
Ability to create, drive and improve food standards
Positive attitude towards every service
Experience in kitchen team development and coaching
High standards of food hygiene
Ability to adapt to the constant challenges of hospitality
High level of professionalism

Siren Craft Brew was born in 2013 with a simple idea in mind: to introduce exciting, full-flavoured and forward-thinking beers to as many people as possible. As part of that mission, we offer our beer as fresh as possible - direct from the source through our on-site tasting room and web shop.
