August Newsletter

Summer seems to be passing by in a hazy blur, but we're here to make the most of it while we can! We've poured at some fantastic events, brewed some beautiful new (and previously seen) beers, and have shaken up a classic flagship sour. Here's a rundown of everything we've been up to of late.

 Santo in 440ml Cans

Santo is kind of big deal for us, so we decided it was time to make it bigger; taking the leap from 330ml to 440ml cans, we've managed to price in these new cans at just £3. Same great taste, new larger size. Save 10% when you buy a 12-pack!

Double-Barrelled Collab

Lead brewer Matt headed out to our friends at Double-Barrelled recently for yet another collaboration spectacular. This time, combined heads crafted a hoppy porter, reflecting complex layers from a parti-gyle style brew of rich, smooth chocolate, biscuity notes and a subtle undertone of coconut & tropic berries.

Calypso: One Last Hurrah?

This month, we brought back our famous dry-hopped kettle sour Calypso - but it's not returned alone. Alongside the new batch of Calypso, now in 440ml cans and single-hopped with selected Simcoe hops (a call back to the first ever batch), we have three brand-new Calypso variants.

DDH Calypso is loaded up with double the amount of hops to usual, which just so happen to be our hand-selected lots of Simcoe, Mosaic and Citra.

Calypso: Sour Cherry Negroni has been spun on gin-infused oak, black cherries and orange zest. It's dry and botanical, full of flavour and pours with a beautiful red colour.

Calypso: Whiskey Sour is a re-imagined beer based on the cocktail of the same name. We've spun the beer on Bourbon Oak for rich vanilla, caramel and whiskey notes, which plays against the sharp acidity of lemon zest and juice. A moreish sweet and sour sensation!

Can stock is rather limited, so don't miss out on trying all four of these sour wonders. Who knows if, or when, our sharp tongued goddess Calypso will next rear her head?

Green Cheek Week

Chosen by bottleshops as their comeback beer, we saw the return of Every Minute Matters - a collaboration brew with Green Cheek Brew Co from the US, and a re-brew of the first ever California IPA brought out by Siren! We also returned High Definition to the nation, our punchy 11.1% Triple IPA. These beers have now sold out online, but you may still be able to spot them in the wild if you search hard enough...

GBBF

Events Coordinator Brodie and the team took to the bar at the Great British Beer Festival, a CAMRA organised beer festival in the heart of London promising good beers, food and entertainment. It's always a highlight, and we were excited to bring with us a wide range of craft beers on both keg and cask.

Our Session IPA, Lumina, was in the running to win Champion Beer of Britain this year, and while we didn't win, it just goes to show how loved and appreciated Lumina has become in its relatively short time here at Siren - thank you for drinking Lumina! If you want to taste a Champion Beer of Britain winner, our flagship Breakfast Stout, Broken Dream, will do nicely (as selected in 2018).

Congratulations to Elland Brewery for winning this year with their 1872 Porter!

Warriorfest 2023

This July, we set sail for Portsmouth and poured our beers at Warriorfest, the greatest pirate-come-dinosaur themed beer festival you'll ever happen upon. Hosted by local legends Staggeringly Good Brewery, we were just one of many breweries tucked away in the bowls of the HMS Warrior, one of the most famous historic warships around.

We had a great couple of days with Lumina, Send Me More Sunshine and High Definition on tap; something for everyone, and everything for anyone who was in the mood for the pirate, dinosaur, Aztec party of the decade!

Sessions & Sours

If you're reading this on Saturday 5th August, drop what you're doing and get down to our on-site Tap Yard in Finchampstead (if you can). For the first time since 2018, Sessions & Sours has returned to Siren! We've got some great offerings on the webshop, but the Tap Yard is where it's truly at on this one. We're celebrating the launch of the new Calypso beers and will have 18 lines pouring over the weekend.

The best part, is there's no ticket required to attend - just rock up and enjoy the festivities including Siren Street Food, lawn games, face painting and a bouncy castle. The perfect family day out!

Clay's Mango Milkshake APA

A super fruity collaboration with the well-renowned Clay's Kitchen & Bar, best served cold and from can and keg at Clay's in Caversham. Mango Milkshake APA is a feel-good pale ale - smooth, juicy and moreish. Expect a vivid, hazy pour, an onslaught of mango flavour, and aromas of oily orange and grapefruit zest. It pairs perfectly with rich, flavourful cooking and creamy desserts alike.

Offering modern Indian cuisine, and specializing in dishes from the Hyderabad & Andhra regions, Clay's is a critically acclaimed Indian restaurant and pub offering an À la carte menu, Small Plates menu and even a way to order their fantastic meals online for home delivery through Clay's At Home!

Our recent table beer, How the Turn Tables, was a popular addition to Clay's earlier this year, alongside a few other choice Siren beers that paired beautifully with the standout Indian cuisine - as raved about by top food critic Jay Rayner. Grace Dent from the Guardian was also left with a fantastic impression from Clay's - you can read her take here.
