It's a Colourful World: Autism Acceptance Week 2024

For the second year running, we’re proudly supporting World Autism Acceptance Week, 2nd - 8th of April.

Autism is a lifelong developmental disability which affects how people communicate and interact with the world. More than one in 100 people are on the autism spectrum and there are around 700,000 autistic adults and children in the UK. Autistic people face discrimination and barriers across all sectors of society – in the health and social care systems, in education, in employment, and everywhere in between.

This is a very personal connection to Siren, as explained by our Founder Darron:

Three years ago, my teenage daughter Ava was diagnosed with autism.  Although she’s known as an outgoing (well - apart from the fact she is a teenager) person, interactions in social scenes, environments that are new to her, noisy, or unexpected changes of plan leave her completely drained. Autism is a spectrum. This means everybody with autism is different, some people needing little or no support, others moreso. My belief is understanding is the most important thing, which of course first requires awareness.

In order to raise money and bring awareness to this very worthy campaign, this year we have developed a beer especially for the cause.

Colourful World is a Tropical Pale Ale, inspired by the Spectrum Colour Walks organised by the National Autistic Society. It’s a vibrant, colourful design and equally vibrant and colourful in its fruity aromas and flavours. Mango, Pineapple, Apricot, Peach and a touch of Orange Zest are all added to the beer to accentuate the tropical notes of the juicy Citra hops.

Fundraising

For every can of Colourful World that we sell, 20p will be donated to charities supporting Autistic individuals in the UK. We will split donations between Ambitious About Autism, Dogs For Autism and the National Autistic Society. We’ll also be encouraging our customers in the trade to support the causes through their own activities.

We will also be supporting World Autism Acceptance week through our Webshop and Tap Yard. We’ll be donating 10p for every £1 spent online between 2nd-8th April to the 3 charities listed above. Meanwhile in the Tap Yard, we’ll also be donating 20p for each pint ordered.

Thank you as ever for your generous support and please enjoy the beer!
