March Newsletter

This month, we officially turn 10 years old, marking the anniversary of our launch party at Craft Beer Co, Clerkenwell. It's not just a busy month, but a busy year of anniversary activities. With that it mind, here's a catch up of the last month, and a look forward to the next...

Spin The Bottle

Spin the Bottle, our interactive ‘everyone wins’ random luck game, has now come to an end. Running throughout February, over 11,000 spins were made, and we are delighted to have offered out over £17,000 in money off codes to help keep your fridge stocked up, not to mention thousands of discount codes.

Thank you for playing, and supporting our web shop in the process – we really appreciate it.

Pancake day

This February, you helped us to celebrate pancake day in style by adding something a little out of the ordinary to your stacks – beer. Desert Flame, our standout Red IPA, was given a battering, allowing the beer’s balanced bitterness and zesty orange notes to shine through. It’s never too late for pancakes and you can find the recipe here

The George & Dragon

Over at The George and Dragon, we’re very proud to announce the induction of our brand-new general manager Rob. Rob comes straight in at the deep end as a new head chef is brought in, and then a complete menu overhaul.

We’re also pleased to announce that we’ll be working with Reeves Butchers in Yateley to source fantastically fresh and incredibly local meat for the pub. This is just the start in our plan to work with more local and independent businesses, and fantastic new cuts of Reeves meat will be showcased in the coming weeks. Stay tuned, and book a table now – we can’t wait to greet you at the George & Dragon.

Tap Yard

We’d like to introduce to you our new Tap Yard manage, Jon. Jon has been a long-term Siren fan, and joins us with a wealth of knowledge about hospitality, beer, and everything in between. Jon has some special plans up his sleeve, so if you’re local, watch this space!

18th March

Please note that as we celebrate our anniversary on March 18th with a ticket only event, the Tap Yard will be closed to the public.

Six Nations

At the time of writing, there are just 12 days left before a winner is crowned in this year’s Ruby spectacular. With the final wrapping on the day of our 10th Anniversary Party, we’re worried that founder Darron will not make attendance to his own birthday bash. With a large selection of sessionable beers at your fingertips, our webshop is the place to go to fuel your Six Nations final party – check out our ‘Try Hard’ mixed case for a Scrum-ptious saving. Go sports!

Friday Food Trucks

In case you missed it, we also now have food trucks every Friday evening, as well as Saturday. The perfect time and place for after work pints.

February Release Round up

Spinning in Infinity – 5.5% Hazy Pale Ale

A follow up to last year’s ‘Surrounded by the Sound’, this is beautiful hazy pale ale designed to showcase hops in the best possible way. Galaxy from Australia, Nelson Sauvin and Motueka from New Zealand, and classic USA Citra bring a combination that gives great depth of flavour, with zesty grapefruit and lime playing against ripe tropical fruits and subtle vinous aromas.

Trickster – 6.5% IPA

A long overdue collaboration with our friends at Buxton Brewery, and a long overdue look at what modern English hops can bring to our IPAs. Harlequin and Jester take centre stage, with peach and passionfruit notes up front and some piney, resinous character on the finish. The beer pours light with a gentle haze and soft mouthfeel.

Shadow Paradise – 6% Export India Porter

A porter inspired by brewing tradition, with hearty dark grains meeting bright, fragrant hops. The result is a journey of chocolate, coffee and light roasty depth, balanced and enhanced by piney, resinous and grapefruit high notes. Drinkable and delicious.

Email Preferences

One of the things we love about craft beer is the variety of styles that we get to explore. But we know that not everybody is a hard and fast sour beer fan, and for some, IPAs just don’t make the cut. Play our new beer preference game, and help us understand what beer styles you do and do not wish to hear about. We'll use the results to make sure we only send you the most relevant content for your desires.

Mother's Day

This Sunday 19th March, we've got your gift giving sorted. Choose from an extensive range on beers, apparel and merchandise, perfect for that special Mum in your life. We've created a special category page with some gifts that we think would be perfect. Check them out here.

Down at the Abbey

We sorely missed this popular independent festival last year, but Down at the Abbey is back for 2023, and we wouldn’t miss it for the world. As the official bar provider of the festival, we’ll be pouring a selection of classic Siren beers on tap, alongside some newer specials. Down at the Abbey will run over the second weekend in September, and you can purchase tickets now.

The Comet is Coming have already been announced as the Friday headliner, so look out for more lineup updates soon.

Random Acts of Kindness

In the week leading up to the 17th February, you joined us in celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Day – or week, as we knew it. It was wonderful to see so many of you gifting beers through our web shop to your friends and loved ones, with the aid of our Cheers & Beers greetings cards.

Siren Heroes

As part of our 10th Anniversary celebrations we are looking to crown 10 Siren Heroes who have been influential in our journey so far. From evangelists to the old school fans, we want the ultimate Siren champions! Some of these will be selected from our amazing suppliers and wider team, but we're looking for 5 people from our community, nominated by our community. You have until the 19th March to get your nomination in – who will your Siren hero be?

10th Anniversary

This month, on Saturday the 18th, we’ll be throwing open the brewery doors once again for our big birthday event – can you believe it’s been 10 years already? Here we’ll be showcasing our four new anniversary beers – Crescendo, Times Ten, Exquisite Corpse and, of course, Maiden 2022, alongside dozens of others pouring from keg and cask.

If you weren’t able to grab tickets for this event, don’t fret – you’ll still be able to enjoy the anniversary beers from the 24th March. More on these below…

Suspended in … Craft Beer Co

We’re taking you back to where it all began for us, 10 years ago at Craft Beer Co. in Clerkenwell. On Saturday 11th March, join us for a fantastic afternoon and trip down memory lane, with four original cask beers pouring – Liquid Mistress, Undercurrent, Broken Dream and Soundwave. We’ll have a brilliant host of keg lines pouring too, and this is your chance to come down and rub shoulders with the Siren team. We can’t wait to see you!

A Hoppy Place

Continuing on with our celebrations, we’ll be featured at The Hoppy Place in Maidenhead on the 30th March at 7pm, where you’ll get the chance to take part in an exclusive blending session and tasting of our Barley Wine ‘Maiden’ – the past three iterations of which will be available to sample. We’ll have our Barrel Master, Steve, sharing a few secrets too, making this a perfect mid-week activity. This is a ticketed event, and tickets can be purchased here.

Anniversary beers

Maiden 2022 marks 10 years of barley wine at Siren. The first ever beer brewed at Siren back in 2013, this 10th edition of our popular barley wine brings new character to this barrel aged classic. Our labour of love, we believe that this beer improves each and every year thanks to the additional depth and complexity we're able to call on from the barrels as time goes by. You can find out more about Maiden here.

Crescendo is a spectacular mashup of our most recent CCC project. Here we have captured the rich chocolate of Candour, the punchy vanilla of Curiosity, and the luxurious intensity of Charm to bring a crashing Crescendo of flavour to the series. This is one of the biggest stouts we’ve created, and an incredibly technical and precise one at that.

Our lagers usually spend around 4 weeks in tank – what if we tripled that? Times Ten is the most ambitious lager we have created. Times Ten has been resting for a massive 100 days, with Mittelfrüh, Saphir and Czech Saaz hops offering fresh floral, herbal and subtle citrus flavours, complementing the base of cracker-like malts with just a hint of sweetness. Such a long development time is a rare opportunity, as it takes up time and space – who knows if we’ll ever get this chance again?

Exquisite Corpse is inspired by the collaborative drawing approach and Surrealist party game that you may remember from your childhood. We recruited 10 influential people from Siren’s past, the majority from some incredible breweries, and asked them to contribute to this 6.9% IPA. The only catch is that no-one knew what the other had proposed… what could possibly go wrong? This consequential IPA was a joy to piece together, and we can’t wait for you to try it.

That's it for now, we'll see you soon!
